Max is a seasoned backcountry guide and passionate snowboarder who first came to Japan in 2007. Originally from Australia, he quickly fell in love with Hokkaido’s deep snow, quiet mountains, and welcoming local communities. With well over a decade of guiding experience across Japan’s most renowned powder destinations, Max brings a calm, confident presence to every tour he leads.
Max began his snowsports journey as a dedicated rider and traveler, chasing winter across hemispheres before choosing Hokkaido as his long-term home. Over the years, he has worked extensively as a guide in Niseko, Furano, Asahidake, and Otaru, gaining deep local knowledge and a sharp eye for terrain, weather, and safety. His guiding style is rooted in respect—for the mountains, the culture, and his clients—and he’s known for delivering unforgettable powder days that balance adventure with good judgment.
Now a full-time resident of Hokkaido, Max lives year-round on the coast with his young family. When the snow melts, he shifts his focus to the sea, spending time paddling, exploring the coastline, and embracing the slower rhythm of Hokkaido’s summer. As a father and ocean lover, he brings a grounded, thoughtful energy to everything he does—whether guiding deep in the backcountry or sharing a quiet viewpoint above the sea.
Max is passionate about helping guests experience the best of Hokkaido’s terrain, culture, and snow. Whether it’s a lift-accessed powder day or a fully human-powered backcountry tour, he tailors each outing to match the group’s experience level, energy, and goals. Clients appreciate his local insight, relaxed demeanor, and steady leadership in the mountains.
For Max, Hokkaido is more than just a powder paradise—it’s a place of balance, beauty, and deep connection to nature. He feels privileged to call it home and loves sharing its magic with guests from around the world.
