Avalanche Safety Gear Rental – Otaru

Visitors exploring the mountains around Otaru and western Hokkaido can rent avalanche safety equipment from our self-service gear lockers located at Powder House Otaru.

The system is designed for convenience and flexibility, allowing guests to collect and return avalanche equipment when it suits them, without needing to meet a staff member.

This is ideal for independent riders heading to nearby mountains such as Kiroro Resort, Sapporo Teine, or Sapporo Kokusai Ski Resort.

How the Locker System Works

Reserve online
Book your avalanche safety pack in advance.

Receive access code
On the morning or evening before of your rental you’ll receive a locker code.

Collect your gear
Pick up your equipment from the lockers at Powder House Otaru.

Return after your trip
Return the gear to the locker when finished.

The lockers are accessible early in the morning so guests can head straight to the mountains.

Location

The lockers are located at Powder House Otaru, a short drive from central Otaru and within easy reach of several ski areas.

Avalanche Safety Pack (Beacon + Shovel + Probe)

¥5,000 per day

Multi-day rentals available.

Important Safety Note

Avalanche safety equipment is essential when travelling in backcountry terrain, but it does not replace proper training or experience.

If you are unfamiliar with safe travel in avalanche terrain, consider hiring a guide or taking an avalanche safety course before heading into the mountains.
