Otaru Powder Base – Private Guided Trip

This 4-night / 3-day private ski and snowboard package is designed for small groups of 1–5 riders looking to explore the deep snow of Hokkaido with expert local guidance and a comfortable base.

Staying in Otaru allows us to move easily between several ski areas depending on snow and weather conditions. Each day is planned around finding the best possible snow, whether that means resort laps, lift-accessed sidecountry, or full backcountry touring.

Your guide is a qualified, certified, and fully insured local professional with extensive experience across the mountains of western Hokkaido.

The goal is simple: safe decision-making, small groups, and finding great powder every day.

Your Private Powder Base in Otaru

This trip is centred around staying at Powder House Otaru, a comfortable private house that serves as a base for exploring the surrounding mountains.

Unlike staying at a single resort, basing the trip in Otaru gives us the flexibility to choose from several nearby ski areas depending on conditions.

Within a short drive we have access to resorts including:

Each morning we select the destination offering the best snow and safest conditions, giving your group the best chance of scoring great powder throughout the trip.

After a full day on the mountain, return to the house to relax, dry gear, and prepare for the next day’s adventure.

Itinerary

This trip includes 3 full guided days on snow, with each day customised to your group’s goals and the current conditions.

Day 1 – Arrival

Arrive in Otaru and settle into your accommodation
Meet your guide for a welcome briefing and equipment check
Discuss goals, ability levels, and terrain options for the coming days

Day 2–4 – Guided Riding Days

Each day begins with a plan based on current snow and weather conditions.

Daily pickup and transport to the best zone
Options may include:
- Resort riding
- Lift-accessed sidecountry
- Full backcountry touring (touring gear required)
Avalanche safety briefing when required
Evening debrief and planning for the following day

Day 5 – Departure

Morning pack-up and check-out
Optional short ride if time allows (not guided)
Continue your travels at your own pace

A Typical Powder Day

Powder days in Hokkaido tend to follow a relaxed rhythm built around the weather and snow conditions.

Mornings usually begin with breakfast at Powder House Otaru, followed by a short drive to whichever resort or mountain zone is offering the best conditions that day. With several ski areas within easy reach of Otaru, we can stay flexible and adjust plans as needed.

After a full day riding powder — whether in the resort, the sidecountry, or further into the backcountry — the group returns to the house to relax, dry gear, and plan the next day.

Evenings are often spent enjoying dinner in Otaru, known for its excellent seafood restaurants, or simply unwinding at the house after a long day in the mountains.

Your home base is Powder House Otaru, a warm and spacious four-bedroom private house located in a quiet residential neighbourhood just outside central Otaru.

With several ski areas located within 10–40 minutes, the house makes an ideal base for exploring different mountains throughout your stay.

This trip is best suited to confident skiers and snowboarders who are comfortable riding all of the mountain and want to explore local areas without the hassle.

Guests should have a good level of fitness and be prepared for variable winter conditions. Previous backcountry experience is helpful but not essential depending on the terrain chosen.
